AI Isn't Coming for Your Job, But Someone Using It Might Be

Updated: May 7

AI technology symbolizing innovation, automation, and the future of digital strategy.

You Can't Hide from AI and Social Media

This is a wake-up call for small-caps and capital markets professionals, AI is coming for you jobs.

Think AI and social media don't affect your business?

Then you haven't been paying attention.

Let me be blunt.

If you're in capital markets, leading a public company, working in IR, PR, media, financial services, consulting, or advisory, and still treating AI and social as tools for "other industries," you're not being cautious.

You're being willfully blind.

Two years ago, I was the same.

My head was firmly in the sand.

I was two glasses into a bottle of champagne when a friend started talking about ChatGPT. I got anxious. "This sounds overwhelming. I can't deal. I'll figure it out later…"

But when I got home, curiosity got the better of me. I visited OpenAI.com and began experimenting. That was it. I never looked at the world or my work the same way again.

What changed? Everything.

I'm not an AI expert, but over the last two years, I've spent thousands of hours upskilling: reading, testing, prompting, exploring, and, more importantly, implementing.

Here's what I've learned: the barrier isn't knowledge. It's a mindset.

AI doesn't stop at ChatGPT. That was the spark.

But the fire is already spreading into agents, automation, and full-blown creative strategy.

If you're in the capital markets ecosystem, your edge isn't your past deals. It's your ability to evolve.

Here are some of the tools I use daily/weekly:

  • ChatGPT – For writing, research, and ideation

  • Supergrow – For growth-driven insights

  • Leonardo AI For custom image generation

  • Canva – For designing scroll-stopping visual content

  • Perplexity – For real-time, AI-powered search

  • Zapier – To automate workflows

  • Notion – For organizing strategy and systems

  • Zoom – For video communication and content repurposing (with automated meeting minutes)

  • Submagic – For automated subtitles on video

  • Gemini AI - For visual-first prompts and Google-integrated AI assistance

What have I done with these tools?

I've learned to implement and connect many of them seamlessly. They don't just work individually; they stack. And when do they do? It's basically like getting an extra Anna working in the background.

That's more time for strategy, more time for clients, and more time to think, pitch, write, and network.

It means I'm outputting more, better, and faster work. I'm sharper and more valuable to my clients because I'm not stuck in reactive mode. I'm operating from strategy, creator, closer, and "how can I improve this?" modes.

AI hasn't replaced what I do; it's amplified it.

And that's the job now: Find the AI tools to help you specifically. Not all of them will fit. But the right ones will change how you operate forever.

Still think this doesn't affect you?

Let me put it this way…

Whether you're raising capital, landing clients, booking keynote speakers, or staying relevant on Bay Street or Wall Street, social media and AI are rewriting the rules of attention, authority, and access.

Remember the trading floor?

There was a time when every order was written on a paper ticket, called in by phone, and physically run across the floor by someone in a blazer.

While the NYSE still has a small physical presence, most trading is done electronically.

No bell. No shouting. No floor.

Just screens. Algorithms. And speed.

You didn’t get to vote on the shift. You either adapted or got left behind.

And now?

Social media, AI, and digital platforms are evolving even faster.

The next wave isn’t waiting for permission, either.

Here's the belief shift to consider:

You're not protecting your business if you're not using these tools. You're limiting it.

But most people still say things like:

"AI doesn't apply to us."

"Our industry's different."

"We'll just wait and see."

These people are the modern-day horse-and-buggy crowd, the same crew that scoffed at smartphones while clutching their BlackBerrys.

And when it all hits? They won't be disrupted. They'll be deleted.

If you're not learning and implementing these tools…

You're being replaced by those who are.

This isn't a scare tactic. It's a wake-up call for the smartest, most seasoned professionals who should be leading the charge.

So don't wait for a press release to tell you what's already changed. Get visible, get skilled, and get serious. Silence isn't a strategy. It's surrender.

AI may not replace you, but someone using it will.
